Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, charges, and your responsibilities associated with the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Lanark, drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra charges applicable for those under 25. A valid driving licence that corresponds with the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of address. Valid payment details and a security deposit must also be provided. Additional criteria may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Lanark office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept all major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document this. When returning the vehicle, it must be in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as received; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may also attract extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or fees incurred while the vehicle is in your possession, along with an administrative charge.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. The full coverage information and excess amounts will be outlined in your Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be accountable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional insurance is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For specific information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for any unlawful purposes is prohibited. Activities such as racing, rallying, or off-roading are not allowed. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle to others or permitting unauthorized drivers is unacceptable. Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is prohibited. The vehicle must be used only for its intended purpose and within specified passenger and weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior consent is not permitted.
Breaching these terms may lead to immediate rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by law in Lanark, Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount you paid for the rental in the previous year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
