Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This document outlines essential terms, conditions, insurance coverage, charges, and your obligations regarding the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for drivers under 25. You must possess a valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration indicated in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Any further requirements detailed in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Lanark location. A booking deposit may be necessary to confirm your reservation. The total payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a comprehensive inspection is required. Any pre-existing damage should be reported without delay to ensure accurate documentation. A vehicle condition report will be filled out and signed for your records. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, accounting only for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and fees applied as necessary. The vehicle should also be returned with the same fuel level; otherwise, refueling charges will be incurred. Late returns will result in additional fees, so please contact us promptly if you anticipate being late. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges that arise during your rental, along with a processing fee.
Insurance and Liability Details
- All car rentals come with basic third-party insurance. The Rental Agreement outlines full coverage details and excess amounts. Additional insurance options may be offered, which can lower your financial liability. It's advisable to examine these options closely. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional coverage applies. Responsibility for damage due to negligence or misuse rests with you, regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicle:
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other dangerous operations is not allowed. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is unacceptable. The vehicle must not be used for purposes it was not intended for, nor should passenger or weight limits be exceeded. Driving outside the agreed geographical area without prior approval is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by law in England and Wales, Car Hire Lanark is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is capped at the total rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. All disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in England and Wales.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
